Staying with 3 small kids was enjoyable! The location near Kyoto Station made exploring easy, and they offered adorable pyjamas for the little ones. My child loved the futon experience, making it fun for bedtime and cozy after long walks.
My kids wished for more room amenities.

Wakin’ up to the sound of them Buddhist temple bells was just magic. The folks runnin’ the place treated me like family, and I loved it! They even had free bikes to roam around town, which was perfect for catchin’ the river views. Don’t expect fancy dining, though. you might have to find food elsewhere.

Free bike rentals were a delightful surprise.
Unfortunately, my experience at Daiya Ryokan was marred by several issues. The shared bathroom was not well-maintained, and I often found it quite dirty, which was unsettling. Additionally, the noise levels were unbearable. I could hear everything happening in adjacent rooms and outside. Overall, it felt more like a neglectful stay rather than the authentic experience I had hoped for.

The Japanese-Style Twin Room was cozy with tatami flooring and a futon mattress, which added to the traditional vibe. I slept really well, but the mattress felt a bit thin for my liking. There wasn’t much furniture, just a couple of small tables, which made the space feel limited. Overall, it was simple and clean, but some more comfy seating would’ve been nice.

The location is superb, just a couple of blocks from the main railway station and within walking distance to downtown and Nishiki Market. Staying in a room with tatami flooring and futon added to the traditional experience, and the seasonal salads served were quite refreshing. However, the lack of comfortable seating options in the room and the thin mattress on the floor might not be ideal for longer stays, as it can get uncomfortable after a while. A couple of unexpected inconveniences, such as basic facilities and limited communal space, were also noticeable.
